A gas grill pressure regulator is the gas pressure regulator that attaches to your grills propane tank. It sends pressurized gas to your burners, which is then controlled using the cooking knobs on the front of your grill. In many cases, gas pressure regulators are pre-set at the factory and no adjustment can or should be done by the consumer. However, on high end or commercial propane grills, the regulator does have an adjustable knob that can be adjusted to achieve the correct flame height and temperature.
The propane gas grill pressure regulator is usually a small metal saucer-shaped object found on the gas line directly next to the gas tank connecting nut. If there is not a turning knob on the regulator, it is pre-set and sealed from the factory, and cannot be adjusted. For safety reasons, the consumer should not adjust this and the manufacturer will not accept any liability for any damage to the consumer or unit if the seal is broken purposefully.
What is the Chain on Propane Grills?
This chain is called the matchstick holder and is used to manually light the grill in the case of any problems which could arise with the electronic igniter system. To use the matchstick holder to light a barbeque gas grill, please use the following instructions, or refer to your owner’s manual.
- Open the lid.
- Make sure all the burner control knobs are turned off.
- Turn on the gas supply to the grill.
- Put a match in the match holder and light the match.
- Insert the match holder, with a single lit match, down through the cooking grates, next to the left burner.
- Push the left control in and turn it to START/HI to igniter the left burner. Check that the flame is lit by looking through the cooking grates. You should see a flame.
- Use a single match for each of the remaining burners in the same manner. If any of the burners fails to ignite during the lighting process, within five seconds, stop, turn the burner control knob to OFF and wait five minutes to allow the gas to clear before you try again.
What is a Lighting hook on a Gas Grill?
Gas grills have an igniter button for quick, easy start-ups but sometimes they fail to spark. No need to panic because you can still light the grill manually. As a backup, and for safety, gas barbeque grills have a built-in match holder that hangs on a chain under your grill. First, open the lid of your grill and find the lighting hole on the side of the grill.
Once you see that, place a match in the curled end of the holder and then light that match with another one. Turn on gas to the burner closest to the hole and insert the match to light. After the first burner is lit, turn on the remaining burners to cross-light them. Once all the burners you want on are lit, you can adjust your flame height and cooking temperature.
How to Cook ribs on a Gas Grill?
Barbecue Ribs should not be cooked too fast over a high direct heat source but instead, low and slow. You need to grill the ribs indirectly, meaning that you have a flame on one side and the ribs on the other. Cook your ribs like this for several hours. You want the inside of your grill to hold a temperature around 225 degrees F/110 degrees C. The ribs should not overlap the fire or they will burn and dry out. This is particularly important for the first two hours. Your ribs will be done when they become tender and the meat is loose around the bones.
You can also pre-cook your ribs to speed up the process or to increase the tenderness of the ribs. To make your ribs melt in your mouth you can precook by either boiling the ribs for about 30 minutes or by placing them in a slow cooker. This will get the ribs going and not dried out. Once you are ready to grill then you can season the ribs and cook them indirectly until done.
The disadvantage of this is that the ribs will not absorb the flavor of the smoke very well and you can literally boil out the flavor of the meat. Remember, if you boil, slow cook, or oven roast ribs it must be at a low temperature, around 225 degrees F/110 degrees C.

As long as you treat your propane gas tank with respect and keep your grill clean and grease free, you will have plenty of great barbeque opportunities.
